Just when you thought sports dramas had run out of fresh plays, Universal charges the field with Him — a jaw-dropping, genre-bending horror movie that fuses gridiron glory with psychological terror. Directed by Justin Tipping, the film stars former college wide receiver Tyriq Withers in his breakout role as Cameron Cade, a driven young quarterback on the brink of NFL stardom — until a brutal attack by a deranged fan flips his world upside down.
Enter Marlon Wayans as Isaiah White, a charming, revered, and possibly very, very twisted football legend who offers to mentor Cam at his private training compound — which feels more cult hideout than quarterback camp. Alongside his enigmatic influencer wife, played by Julia Fox, Isaiah promises transformation. But as Cam pushes himself to reclaim his future, something about Isaiah’s “tough love” regime starts to spiral into full-on nightmare fuel.
What begins as a tale of redemption slowly unravels into psychological horror, as ambition, identity, and obsession collide under Isaiah’s magnetic and increasingly menacing influence. Add in appearances from Tim Heidecker and Jim Jefferies, and you’ve got a cocktail of offbeat energy and creeping dread that feels like Whiplash meets Get Out on a football field soaked in paranoia.
With a screenplay by Zack Akers, Skip Bronkie, and Tipping himself, Him looks to bring something wildly original to the horror genre — a chilling look at masculinity, mentorship, and what happens when the game starts playing you. Set to hit theaters on September 19th, 2025, this one’s already shaping up to be the horror underdog story no one saw coming.
